What is the Performance League?

The 2024 season will mark the third season District 8 will offer the Performance League program for teenage players league age 13 to 16 that reside or go to school within the boundaries of our four member leagues: Calgary West, Rocky Mountain, Fish Creek and Calgary South.

The Performance League is a high-performance league that runs April through July each season.  Games are mostly weekends (3-4 games) and practices are weekdays. Travel is necessary to play teams in Lethbridge, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and North Calgary.

In 2023 we fielded a Junior and Senior team who played other Little League performance teams, Babe Ruth, Baseball Alberta and American Legion teams from all over the province.  The goal of the program is to provide a competitive outlet for players who want to experience more than community house league play, while also striving to keep the cost low to participate, and continue to play and practice on local fields.  Our program is coordinated and coached by volunteers, further reducing the cost to athletes.

The spring season leads to Little League Tournament Play in the month of July where teams will contend for a Divisional Championship with the winners advancing to a Canadian Championship and even a World Series. We are very proud of our 2023 Junior team for being the Alberta Division Junior Champions and advancing to the Junior League Canadian Championship!

Building off this success, we have selected three teams for the 2024 season that will train together through the fall and winter indoors and develop their skills, while also having a flexible and lower commitment schedule that will allow them to participate in other sports through the off-season.
