Hello Baseball Families:
Little League Alberta District 8 organizes the Performance League program, the District 8 Knights, for teenage players league age 13 to 16 that reside or go to school within the boundaries of our four member leagues: Calgary West, Rocky Mountain, Fish Creek and Calgary South Little Leagues.
The Performance League is a competitive baseball program that offers athletes the opportunity to continue to practice and compete in their local community at an affordable cost and some travel is involved.
- Teams play against other Performance League teams from North Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Edmonton and possibly Saskatchewan in the Western Frontier Baseball League.
- Teams play exhibition games and tournaments with Baseball Alberta, American Legion and Independent teams.
- Little League Tournament Teams (All-Stars) will be formed in July each year to compete at Western Bracket tournaments that could lead to a Canadian Regional Championship or even the Intermediate, Junior or Senior League World Series.
We are not an academy and our program is organized and coached by volunteers, mostly parents. Our goal is to keep fees as low as possible (2026 fees were $1,300 per player, 2027 fees to be set based on total participation and budgeted cost), while providing off-season indoor training (3-4 times per month), an apparel package, in-season tournaments and approximately 30 games total each season leading up to Tournament Play. Our program compliments an athlete’s ability to continue to play other sports in the off-season if they choose, but does require full commitment in season (April to July, and hopefully August).
Intake into the 2027 Performance League program will start in a few weeks in late August with Talent ID Camps. There is no charge to attend. From these ID camps we will identify athletes to invite directly into the program and/or call back for a round of evaluation outdoors in early September involving scrimmages so we can further assess on-field ability and compete level before final selection of our 2027 teams, which will then continue to practice and play exhibition games outdoors in September and October, after which they will move indoors to practice for the fall and winter.
Parents, if your athlete is age eligible and interested in attending the Talent ID Camp, please click on the link below to register. Space will be limited. Eligible birthdates for the 2027 teams are 2010-09-01 to 2014-08-31. After registering you will be able to sign up for an evaluation session online.
Parents: Are you interested in being a volunteer coach with our program? Please indicate on your athlete’s registration or send an email to the address below.
